10 Foods You Won’t Trust Are Truly Vegan

So you’ve picked to go vegan — congrats! Maybe it’s because you can’t stand the thought of animals suffering or being established in sketchy situations. Or perhaps you just require to be part of a better lifestyle. But a word of caution: Just because a food is vegan does not mean it’s reliable for you. Case in point: Oreos. That “crème” station isn’t cream at all, but rather, just sugar and partially hydrogenated oil. And Oreos are just one of the numerous junk foods to make PETA’s “Accidentally Vegan” list. Here, nine more vegan foods that shocked us most.

Keebler Vienna Fingers

Like Oreos, these vanilla crème-filled wafers don’t have a drop of dairy. Just a full bunch of sugar plus bad-for-you oils.

Smucker’s Marshmallow Topping

Marshmallows typically aren’t vegan because they utilize gelatin — powdered bones and connective muscle of cows and other animals — to get that firm, bouncy texture. Since it’s liquid, marshmallow topping doesn’t require the gelatin. But that doesn’t make it a healthy ice cream topper — the primary three components are all sugar.

Sara Lee Frozen Pies

The crust of anything you purchase from the freezer part will possibly be made not with butter, but with partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Those flakey, butter rolls your mom makes every Thanksgiving — yeah, not yet a drop of butter in them. Rather, they’re made with soybean oil, palm oil, hydrogenated palm oil, and partially hydrogenated soybean oil.

Brach’s Mandarin Orange Slices

Most sticky candy is manufactured with gelatin, but not these. Still, just a some would send you into sugar overload.

Cracker Jacks

There’s no butter in that “caramel” layer. It’s just sugar, corn syrup (more sugar), molasses (more sugar), including soybean oil.

Keebler Original Club Crackers

This one’s nearly improbable to assume. There’s no butter in those super buttery cookies from your childhood — just soybean oil plus three kinds of sugar.

Ritz Crackers

Fairly surprising as the Club Crackers, there’s no butter to be discovered here either.

Kettle Maple Bacon Potato Chips

Wait…there’s no real bacon in these “maple and bacon” chips? Nope, just “original flavors (including smoke).”
